Children's Ministry

Welcome to Monroe First United Methodist Church! We are glad that you are interested in the Children’s Ministry area here at MFUMC. We offer many activities and programs, and we hope you find the one that is right for you and your family.

The goal of the Children’s Ministry Team is to provide a variety of opportunities where children can learn about God’s love and His grace in a loving and safe environment. Children are viewed as spiritual beings and play a vital role in our church family. We truly believe that children are the present of the church...not just the future or the church. A team of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers demonstrates what it means to be a disciple of Christ. We understand the importance of safety in our church, therefore we are a “Safe Sanctuary” church. All volunteers must attend a training course on our policies and procedures and a background check is performed on each volunteer.

We want to support you and your children as a family, offering “family times” for fun, fellowship and worship. We promote unconditional love, outreach and service as a family. Our aim is to help families find ways to be disciples for Christ together.

Our twelve-member Children’s Ministry Team meets monthly to pray for and plan for children in our church and community. The team is supported by church staff member, Corrie Beth Noll, Director of Children’s Ministries. For more information , please contact Corrie Beth at 770-267-6525 ext. 23.

Nursery Care
8:45am ~ 9:45am ~ 10:45am

Child care is offered during both Sunday services (beginning at 8:00 am), Sunday School, Wednesday Night Bible Study and special events throughout the year. Paid nursery staff members are trained in child care in the church setting. All have current CPR certification, and all paid workers and volunteers regularly participate in Safe Sanctuary trainings and criminal background checks. Pagers are available for parents of children in the infant and toddler nurseries. A private nursing room is located at the rear of the infant nursery. Staff member Michele Short coordinates volunteers for the nursery. If you would like more information, please contact the church office at (770) 267-6525.

Sunday School
9:45am - 10:45am

Sunday school is offered for children beginning at the age of two and classes are located in our education building. Dedicated teams of teachers lead these classes and engage the students in opportunities for worship, study and prayer. Classes use the Rock Solid curriculum from Cokesbury.

CLUB 56
9:45am - 10:45am

Club 56 is a specially designed class for our 5th and 6th graders. Club 56ers meet in their club room located on the right side hallway behind the sanctuary. Club 56ers meet at 9:45 am for Sunday School, led by Robert and Lauren Jackson. They also meet in the club room for Wednesday night study from 6:30-87:30. Club 56ers enjoy time with the older youth on Sunday evenings. They also have the very special opportunity to participate in Confirmation class, where they learn about our Christian and Methodist heritage.

Children’s Church

Children’s Church is for children in K4-2nd grade. Children remain with their parents in the worship service until dismissed after the Children’s Sermon. Volunteers plan worship activities with a balance of quiet and active time and lead arts and crafts activities that illustrate the Bible Message. The goal of children’s church is to not only give the children the opportunity to explore the Bible and to learn about our faith, but also to prepare them to participate in “Big Church” one day.

Worship

Children are always welcome to stay during both of our Sunday morning worship services. The 8:28 service is a relaxed setting where children are free to move and dance during the service if they wish. During the 11:00 service children have the opportunity to participate in a Children’s Sermon as well as children’s church. Children participate regularly in worship, and they lead the Children’s Sabbath celebration each year. Other special worship events include Preschool Sunday, Scout Sunday and Palm Sunday. Worship bags with books, paper, crayons and a special weekly message are available for older children or children wishing to stay in church with their parents. Bags are located on the front pews on each side of the sanctuary.

252Basics

Our Wednesday night program for children is a worship-packed experience that is sure to engage the whole family in studying God’s word! Based off of Luke 2:52, this program helps children focus on three important truths: I need to make the wise choice; I can trust God no matter what; I should treat others the way I want to be treated. Each truth is amplified by a weekly concept, Bible story and memory verse. 252Basics also give families the opportunity to study at home what the kids learn on Wednesday night!

Choirs

At Monroe FUMC, one of our many goals is to give children and youth a sense of responsibility in the church. Various choirs and musical groups geared specifically toward children and youth meet throughout the year. The children and youth regularly help lead worship services. We also have special performances throughout the year, including a Christmas musical, caroling at local retirement homes, Children’s Sabbath, a spring youth program and music camp during the summer. We focus on praising God, learning about music, learning how to lead worship and having a wonderful time in fellowship with one another. We always welcome new faces in our choirs! For more information, please contact Corrie Beth Noll, Director of Children’s Ministries at (770)267-6525 ext. 23.

Mission

We feel one of the most important aspects of being a Christian is living a life of service—no matter how young you are. The Children’s ministry Team at MFUMC organizes various opportunities for families in our church to come together and serve others. Whether it’s singing at the local nursing home, collecting school supplies for needy children or cleaning up local homes, we are always happy to serve.

Seasonal Events

Families enjoy several seasonal events at the church or in downtown Monroe such as Family Fun Days, Dinosaur Day Camp, Family Advent programs, Halloween “Light Up The Night”, the “Hanging of the Green” Christmas service and Vacation Bible School. Vacation Bible School is a June event which brings around 100 children in for a week of music, crafts, fun, and Bible lessons. Vacation Bible School is held in the evenings, and dinner is served to all participants.

Service Projects

Vacation Bible School provides an opportunity for children to participate in a mission project. Groups help with F.I.S.H. needs such as filling school bags with supplies. Children’s choirs go caroling during the year to visit home bound members and friends. Families fill shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse Ministries. Children’s classes and groups also plan and carry out other local missions projects.  We are planning several service opportunities for the fall and winter.
